If you live in the UK (you know, the United Kingdom), I just wanted to let you know that my incredible television program “The King of Miami with Dave Hill”, starring me and my unstoppable bodyguard Phil Costello, will be debuting this Saturday, August 1 on Film24 (Sky channel 157) at 11:20pm. Please watch it and then other people to watch it and stuff. You can check the schedule here. I hope you like it so much. And I plan to come to the UK this fall or so to do some shows and drink a lot, so maybe we can go get a Scotch egg or a Ribena or something.

My New One-Man Show “Big in Japan” TOMORROW at UCB. Come, Dammit!

Attention People of New York City:

This is your man Dave Hill writing to remind you one last time that TOMORROW, Thursday, July 30, 2009 at 6:30pm, I will performing my brand new one-man (me) show “Big in Japan” for the very first and- at this point anyway- only time in North America at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre, right there in the heart of it. As hinted at in the title, the show chronicles my rise to enormous celebrity in the country of Japan, which is just east of here. If you like shows that feature tales of addiction, lots of guitar shredding, a return to innocence, and also lots of hardcore banging, I’ve got a pretty good feeling you will enjoy this show on at least four different levels. Also, I realize this is a remarkably early show, especially for someone as famous as I am. The reason I am staging it so early is that I want to make sure people are able receive any medical treatment they may require as a result of having seen my incredible show before all the emergency rooms fill up with drunks, stabbing victims, and other fakers. Anyway, I really hope you can make it. I have been working super hard on it with my great director Jeff Tomsic and my great assistant director Nicole Brodeur. Since rehearsals started, I have gained over 20 pounds in muscle mass, all of which I intend to put directly into my show tomorrow night because it costs five bucks. You only get one lap around the big race track of life and I am driving like a motherf@#ker. You can get tickets for my show right here. And please enjoy this in-depth Japanese interview with me right here.

Love,
Dave Hill

San Diego Comic-Con 2009 in Review
Posted on 28th July 2009

It’s Tuesday and I’m still coming down from about 36 action-packed hours at San Diego Comic-Con 2009. That is a picture of me above with MC Supersized, the creation of the great artist Ron English, whom I had the pleasure of meeting on Friday at Comic-Con. He gave me a cool signed alien he made. It’s staring at me right now as I type this.

Other Comic-Con excitement included running into the Mighty Boosh guys at JFK. We were on the same flight to San Diego. I had a couple beers with Julian and Rich Fulcher and they were super nice guys. As a huge fan of the show, it was a delight to sit and drink stuff with them and talk about how we were all about to fly to San Diego on a plane. Since we are all professionals in the field of comedy, the amount of amusing things being said by the three of us was significantly higher than when totally regular people hang out together and the photo above is just further evidence of that fact.

Once I got to San Diego, the excitement continued big time. I met my dear friend Tig Notaro in the lobby of the Hilton, the classy hotel I stayed at in San Diego, where she had already been partying super hard for several hours, drinking beer and eating Bugles, the popular snack food. I dropped my bag off and then we went over to the W hotel to continue partying super hard with my soulmate Lucy Lawless, whom you no doubt know from such programs as “Xena,” “Battlestar Galactica,” and the upcoming “Spartacus,” a show on which you can see her boobs I understand. That is a photo of Lucy and me having a really great time together above. Lucy and I agreed that hanging out together in each others’ arms was pretty much our favorite thing to do in life.

At the W hotel, I drank a bunch of Negronis, the popular Campari-based drink that makes me feel like I have a job. I had too many of them, but that only added to all the fun Tig and I had together though I’m not sure if anyone else saw it that way. That is us above really enjoying each others’ company. Tig plays Joan Jett’s mother in the upcoming Runaways biopic. She wears a wig in the movie.

On Friday, I went to the Con itself and interviewed the f@#k out of people for MSN. You can find some of the videos from that day here. More will be posted as the week goes on, so check back or something. That is a photo of me interviewing Wario, Mario’s evil twin above. It was fun.

Speaking of Tig, here is a video of the two of us having a great time at Comic-Con. It was fun to party super hard with her the night before and then have a perfectly reasonable conversation on camera the next day, something that famous people like us do all the time.

Things with Tig turned weird later that day back at the hotel though. One second we were having a really great time and the next she was just sitting in the window and was just a million miles away. I couldn’t reach her. This went on for about six hours until she finally snapped out of it and we got back to partying super hard. As it turned out, she had just found out that her entire family had just been killed and she was briefly in a weird mood about it. I’m glad she didn’t continue making it my problem.

Once Tig snapped out of it, we got back to fun, fun, fun. We went our separate ways for dinner and then met up later for more partying, something we like to do most of the time. Things got so nuts that at one point me, Tig, and television’s Rob Huebel broke into the stadium where the San Diego Padres play and just continued partying super hard. That is something we will be talking about for a long, long time- the night we broke into where the Padres play. If I know the three of us, this is just the first of many professional sports facilities we will be breaking into at night in the years to come. Maybe my soulmate Lucy Lawless will come with us next time. Sure, we fight sometimes, but I just can’t stay mad at her.

Dave Hill in “Big in Japan” Thursday, July 30 at UCBT! One night only, dammit!
Posted on 23rd July 2009

Attention People of New York City:

As many of you know, I, Dave Hill, am a gigantic celebrity in Japan. And now I have finally agreed to talk about it in the form of my brand new one-man show type thing that I am calling “Big in Japan,” which I will be performing for the very first time ever in North America for one night only on Thursday, July 30 at 6:30pm at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre over there in Chelsea. It is a story of beauty, hope, and my undying will to rock the f@#k out of people, especially people in Japan, a country where I can barely walk down the street without a bunch of chicks totally trying to bang me and stuff. Anyway, I really hope you can make it because my new show will touch you, move you, and maybe even make you believe in the power of your dreams. And if it doesn’t do all that stuff no biggie because it is only about a half an hour long so it’s not like you just sat through “Reds” or something. Also, my show is directed by the great Jeff Tomsic and assistant directed by the great Nicole Brodeur. They have been directing the f@#k out of me lately and it has really been paying off. And as if all of that is not enough, my show will be immediately preceded by a great new show by Nick Zimmerman, so you can totally see Nick’s show and then watch me come out and tear it up like a motherf@#ker right after for just five bucks. Not bad for a Thursday. Also, as mentioned earlier, I am doing this show for one night only. If we all have a nice time, I might do it again, but at the moment it is seriously just for one night only. Anyway, I really hope you can make it. It’s an early show, so you could go have dinner or something afterwards with friends. I don’t know- you will have to sort that part out yourselves. You’ll come up with something- this is New York City, Home of the Stars (and also some people who had to move from their hometown because they are gay)! Why not go on some of the rides? Anyway, you can get tickets right here. And as long as you’re on the Internet and everything, why not check out my Japanese website right here?

Love,
Dave Hill

Mystery Bike…of Death!!!
Posted on 22nd July 2009

I often see this bike parked in my neighborhood. And sometimes I see the guy who presumably owns it riding it around. I’m not a detective, but my guess is that that guy lives in my neighborhood and that’s why he parks and rides his bike around the neighborhood.

Anyway, as you can see, the bike has a sort of palate or flatbed type thing on the back of it. I often see the guy riding it around with stuff on it, sometimes boxes, sometimes his dog, it changes every time. What I always wonder though is whether the guy was always carting stuff around some other way and then got the bike to make things easier or if he just had the bike and decided to start carting things around just because he totally can. It’s a chicken and egg sort of thing. Sort of. Anyway, this is just one of the many things I wonder about as I go about my day. I also wonder whether you could swim in a pool full of Jell-o. I doubt it, but I bet it would be delicious to try. Ditto with pudding.

More Prison Excitement
Posted on 20th July 2009

As mentioned previously (right here, for example), I recently performed my Dave Hill Explosion show along with special guests the lovely and talented Laura Krafft and Carl Arnheiter at Sing Sing prison, which was the most fun I’ve had in a really long time. I recently got some photos back from that day. The one above is me with my buddies Clark Caldwell (the guy with the beard), Laura, and Carl as we were gearing up for the show. As you can probably tell, we were all pretty excited to be in prison. This is before Laura became hardened by prison.

And here is a photo of us with some of the Sing Sing Staff. That’s Lesley on the left and Olga on the right. And that’s Big Lou in the back. He is a super nice guy who has worked at Sing Sing for thirty years and is going to retire next week I believe. Good luck, Big Lou! And thanks for helping us have a great time in prison!

Bishop and Douch Invasion
Posted on 16th July 2009

My friends and favorite Brits Bishop and Douch are invading New York City over the next week or so and I encourage you to go see them whenever and wherever you can. I was supposed to do a show with them on July 23rd, but now I have to go out of town. But fear not- they’ve got Patrick Borelli, Kristen Schaal, and Kurt Braunohler appearing in my place so everything worked out super great! If you want to get a better sense of the magic of Bishop and Douch, read this interview in Heeb magazine with them right here or watch this incredible (and timely!) video of them that also features Ewen MacIntosh from “The Office” (the awesome British one):

This Is Me Reading
Posted on 16th July 2009

A couple months ago, I did the very fun “How I Learned…” reading series at Happy Ending and now a video of my reading from that night is totally on the Internet. The theme that night was “How I Learned to Be Super Succesful” and I totally wrote about that and then read about that in front of all the people who showed up that night. If you have eight minutes and fifteen seconds to spare, you can totally watch the whole thing above. I hope you enjoy it, like, a lot.

Dalmation Rides Tricycle and So Much More
Posted on 14th July 2009

I can’t remember if I’ve posted this here before, but either way it’s worth reposting. This is from a Japanese TV show that had a Dalmation riding a tricycle, something that I don’t expect to get old any time soon. If you’re anything like me, you will probably just watch this video over and over again for the rest of the day.
