Dave Recommends: “Half Empty” by David Rakoff
Posted on 21st September 2010

Hi. Do you like reading and stuff? Oh, great, then you should totally go buy the new book by my friend David Rakoff, which is called Half Empty. I am telling you to buy this book not because I am friend’s with the author but because this book is seriously great and I know because I totally read it. This is David’s third book (Fraud and Don’t Get Too Comfortable came before this one and are also books you should own and cherish). Half Empty is a collection of hilarious, sometimes dark, and always beautiful essays about not looking for the silver lining in things. Rakoff talks about everything from getting the boot from “First Wives Club” to stuff that’s even worse. He is a linguistic acrobat who makes activities other than just sitting there reading his new book seem like bullshit. If you buy this book and don’t love it, you can come find me and kick me in the nuts. Also, if you are in New York City tonight, go to his reading at Barnes and Noble in Union Square. I will totally be there and I will be hammered and making out with all the chix.

Love,
Dave Hill
