Here is something nice- Powerpopaholic.com gave my unstoppable rock band Valley Lodge a great review of our hot new album “Semester at Sea”. And you thought I was making it up about how awesome we are. Read the review right here.

I love graphic design and poster art, so when my friend Will hipped me to Grain Edit, a graphic design and poster art website, I was all like “Great- I love graphic design and poster art.” In their words “Grain edit is focused on classic design work from the 1950s-1970s and contemporary designers that draw inspiration from that time period.” I love that stuff. If you do too, you should check it out. So there.
In other news, my lovely friend Tig Notaro, whom you no doubt remember from the popular “Sarah Silverman Program” and ABC’s new show “In The Motherhood,” is doing a new web series called “The Tig Series.” Watch her interview her friend and “In the Motherhood” co-star Megan Mullally above. It will change you. Tig and I are going to be doing the Bridgetown Comedy Festival in Portland, Oregon next week. If time permits, I am hoping we can get a sandwich or something.

Hi there. I just wanted to let you know that this Thursday night I will be doing the popular “Three-Piece” show at the popular Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. “Three-Piece” is a great show in which an improvised monologue is presented in three parts. It is hosted by the lovely and talented Laura Krafft and will also feature me and the great Chris Gethard (together we will form the three-piece in question). This show is one of my favorite things to do in the whole world that doesn’t involve matches, mousetraps, hot water balloons, live chinchillas, or ice cream. Come to the show this Thursday and I am pretty sure you will feel the same way. Hope to see you there. You can get tickets right here (don’t pay attention to the out-of-date guest information. Chris and I are the guests. Stop yelling at me).

As part of my ongoing project of demographic-specific videos for my hot rock band Valley Lodge, I made this video for our incredible John Kimbrough-penned song “Sold,” which I humbly offer to you for free download right here. I hope you enjoy both song and video a whole bunch.
In other news, Happy Birthday to guitar god Ritchie Blackmore. He shreds like a motherf@#ker.

Last night, I saw the documentary “Anvil: The Story of Anvil,” which- as hinted at in the title- is the story of Anvil, the Canadian metal band who aren’t messing around. The movie was as good as I had hoped- beautiful, inspiring, rocking, and funny all at once, which is pretty much all one can ask for in a movie (or life in general for that matter). Some people might enjoy this movie on an ironic level, like those people who embrace metal in the trendy, pop culture kind of way, throwing devil horns and wearing Iron Maiden T-shirts when they couldn’t name a single Maiden song. The movie (and metal in general, of course) is much more than that though. Plus, lead singer and guitar player Lips plays a Flying V, which is pretty much the only way to go when you have a song called “Metal on Metal.” Go see this movie. Here is the trailer:

I picked up Bob Mould’s new album “Life and Times” this week and it is great. My current favorite at the moment is “Argos” because I am a sucker for the rock but the album is solid from start to finish. And awesome drumming from Jon Wurster of Superchunk and Scharpling & Wurster fame. The guitar geek in me wonders how Bob records his guitars. They sound killer. Go buy this album now or I will stab you. No, wait, that’s too harsh. But I if you don’t buy it I will probably point at you and be all like “You know, you really should by that album. I mean it.” And then I will make fun of your outfit (even if it looks great).

As part of my ongoing homemade music video project, I whipped up this video for my rock band Valley Lodge’s song “Hey” from our classic first album. I hope you enjoy it so much. And you should because it’s maybe the best thing I’ve ever done. And if you like the song, download it here for free or go buy it on iTunes. I will love you either way just for listening.

Here’s a great new video from a great man, my friend Chris Schneider, one of my all-time faves in, like, ten different categories.
